Lex Vajna sees film chief enjoy tax relief

Hungary’s film czar Andy Vajna is benefitting from a government law change that secured 20% tax breaks for video game trailer production companies. Digic Pictures, which was founded by the US-Hungarian film producer-turned Fidesz film commissioner, made 150 million forints (ca. 510,000 euro) profit last year, and thanks to the 2012 legislation, he will receive around 157 million forints (ca. 530,000 euro) tax relief for trailers made for such video games as Halo 4 and Assassin’s Creed III.
Digic Pictures is owned by “Magyar Enterprises”, a Dutch Antilles-registered firm. Its mother company has a complex ownership structure, but it also owns Buno, a catering firm headed by Vajna.
