Oligarchopedia: László Kapolyi

László Kapolyi is the ‘doyen’ of Hungarian oligarchs (born in 1932); he led an academic career, he served as a minister before the transition, later he was the head of a party and a member of Parliament in Hungary’s newborn democracy. Mr. Kapolyi received an honorary doctorate from the Moscow State Mining University; he is a visiting professor of Fletcher School in Boston. An independent cosmopolite who maintained good relations with Hungary’s communist leader János Kádár, with Soviet party secretaries and even with Russian and Ukrainian strongmen. At the moment he is on trial but he has always been able to overcome unlucky situations so far.
