EU-funds for tourism development investigated

The Hungarian National Development Agency (Nemzeti Fejlesztési Ügynökség) published the list of accepted applications in their program supporting the development of for-profit hotels. The NDA had to increase the amount of subsidies from 11 billion Hungarian forints (ca. 37 million euros) to 16.5 billion (55.45 million euros) because of the large number of applications. Among the recipients of the grants there is a car dealer and a plastic bottle manufacturer as well, and Atlatszo.hu’s journalists found on the list a member of Parliament (Zsolt Tiffán, Fidesz), the shareholder of a Hungarian supermarket chain (Vilmos Lázár, CBA) and a business partner of a Hungarian “oligarch” Lajos Simicska. Several recipients have received subsidies exceeding the amount of 100 million Hungarian forints (336 thousand euros).
