Court gives green light for our FOIA request
The Budapest Metropolitan Court has decided mostly in favor of atlatszo.hu in a case regarding a freedom of information request we filed at state-owned Magyar Villamos Művek Zrt (MVM). We asked for formerly unpublished inside reports and memos from the 2007-2008 heydays of alleged corruption at MVM. We also asked pieces of data redacted by MVM from documents we obtained formerly through FOIA requests, as a recent leak convinced us that the corporation was hiding far more than its trade secrets. MVM rejected, citing its business interests and ongoing legal cases. Although the court have found the redaction policy of MVM justifiable here and there, the decision favors mostly our position, which might be an important step in stretching the boundaries of free information and also shedding more light on the dealings of MVM.
