Budapest 5th district municipality examined

We have started to publish a series of articles on the way Budapest’s city centre, the 5th disctrict municipality. The district has spent large sums on the reconstruction of various buildings in recent years. The company chosen to do most of this work is now under liquidation. When we first asked the district about the details of the selection process of subcontracting companies, we got no reply and  we did not receive any feedback on our other freedom of information requests either. The district claimed this delay was caused by their lack of sufficient staff. We found out that the municipality has financially supported several non-governmental organizations in the past years: examining the background of these organizations we found that many of them were directly connected to various political parties involving the whole political spectrum.
