Court obliged Public Service Media Fund to publish contracts

The Budapest Metropolitan Court recently decided that the Public Service Media Fund is obliged to publish contracts related to the purchase of the buildings of the National Television. The court decision stated that the Media Fund acted against the law when they refused to hand out the documents which atlatszo.hu asked for earlier. Although the Media Fund had claimed that the contracts were confidential and that they represented data related to the preparation for decision-making (this category can in some cases justify the classification of otherwise public documents in Hungary), the court stated that we were right: the signed contract is a completed decision in itself, serving – as a matter of course – as a basis for further decisions.The court decision also claimed that only certain security measures may be justifiably hidden in these documents. After the court decision the Media Fund published the contracts on its own webpages.
