The Dial: How the US elections is being reported on in Hungary?
Viktor Orbán’s right-wing government, and the media apparatus it controls, has made no secret that it wants to see Donald Trump win the election. The Hungarian government support for Trump however goes further than praise of the former president: state-funded institutes regularly work with people and organizations close to the Trump campaign, including the authors of Project 2025.
American magazine The Dial recently published a collection of articles written by a selection of journalists from various countries. The topic: how the media accros the globe cover the upcoming US elections. The Dial included journalists from all over the globe, including China, Germany, Bolivia and Afghanistan.
The section about the Hungarian media was written by Átlátszó’s journalist Zalán Zubor, who described how the US elections may have a massive impact on Hungarian domestic politics. Government officials openly admit their support for Donald Trump and the media conglomerate affiliated with the Orbán government have amplified disinformation about Kamala Harris.
The article also goes into details about the ways state-funded institutions such as the Danube Inistitute and English-language publications like the Hungarian Conservative lend support to the Trump-campaign, and shaped the controversial Project 2025.
