Hungarian citizenship became a commodity in Ukraine

Miklós Kovács, president of Cultural Association Of Hungarians In Subcarpathia claims that about 10,000 out of 50,000 new Hungarian dual citizenships were obtained through corruption. In our interview, the nationality group’s leader says it might cost a 500- 1000 euros bribe to get a citizenship from Hungarian officials even for those who don’t speak a single word in Hungarian. According to Kovács it is also concerning that those Hungarians who assume their citizenship openly risk harassment from the ukranian authorities, as it happened in some cases. Another example for ethnic inequality that the national languages law only applies to the Russian speaking citizens.
