From the broker scandal to the urban development unit
Péter Simon owes 500 million Hungarian forints to the local government of Szentendre, still he was elected to the head of the town’s urban development project management unit. His name appeared in the “broker scandal” of Attila Kulcsár; and famous Hungarian football player Pál Dárdai is also among his business partners. Mr. Simon lives in Szentendre, a town close to Hungary’s capital, since 1982. He contributed to the development of the town’s sporting life by organizing competitions, and managing sport related construction projects. Between 2000 and 2004 he was chair of the board, later CEO of Thermal Hotel Visegrád Zrt. a company which was involved in the alleged money-laundering activities of the broker scandal. His construction projects were conducted by QualiTeam-Consult Kft. which he founded in 2002. QualiTeam had a 70% share in Aquapalace, the company running “Vizes Nyolcas” swimming pool in Szentendre. The local government owned 30% of the shares until 2009 when QualiTeam quit the agreement. According to a local citizen group the reason for this was the fact that the company was running a deficit which should have been covered by the owners.
