Magyar Posta protecting rightist media secrets
Magyar Posta Zrt., the state-owned company running the Hungarian postal service has been reluctant to inform atlatszo.hu about the tariff it charges for distribution of the free weekly Helyi Téma. Helyi Téma, which is printed in 675 000 copies each week, is owned by Vitézy Tamás, a businessman close to Fidesz. Starting with January, Magyar Posta became involved with the distribution in several towns, in Budapest only 1500 mailmen has been given Helyi Téma to deliver. Atlatszo.hu obtained the contract between the parties after filing a freedom of information request, but was disappointed to learn that the price figures have been redacted. The state-owned company denied publishing exact figures, claiming it would hurt its interests disproportionately.
